Celebrating the Red, White & Blue with a Retro Flair

28 Jun

Can any of you believe that next week will be the Fourth of July already? We can’t! But what we can believe is that we MUST bring the best of our dresses out to help us celebrate this occasion. Give us any reason to shop and style an outfit!

We are going to show you two JBR dresses that are perfect, as well as a bathing suit from Fables by Barrie, and some ideas we got from Pinterest on how you can celebrate the Fourth in your vintage style!

The first dress we would like to show you is the Belle dress by Bernie Dexter. This classic swing dress reminds us of everything fun about summer. The red and white gingham is reminiscent of a picnic blanket or table cloth, and while it may not seem like the best idea to wear something that would be used for a BBQ as a dress, we think this is a fun twist!

Pair this dress with the right accessories and you will look like you are the living embodiment of the 1950’s. We would suggest pairing this with a white beaded or chain necklace and some stud earrings. For shoes you can do a small heeled tan or nude pump or wedge (depending on the event you are wearing this too). If you are planning on wearing your hair up be sure to add a large flower accent, again we like the idea of red, white, or even blue to tie it in!

If you don’t want to wear red then try this blue number by Hell Bunny, it is their Mariam Dress. The Mariam comes in three different colors, blue, red, and black, but we like the idea of wearing the blue one on the fourth!

The large polka dots on this dress really make it more of a stand out piece. Most dresses have the smaller polka dots, but this has the bold polka dots that can’t be mistaken! For accessorizing this dress we love pairing it with some wooden looking bracelets and silver earrings. We also like adding a large costume ring to it! For the hair you can either add a flower, or you can tie a scarf to create a head band or accent hair tie!

This is one of our favorite red, white, and blue inspired bathing suits from Fables by Barrie! It is the Skipper Bikini Top and Bottom! We love Fables by Barrie because all of their bikini tops and bottoms can be mixed and matched according to your preferences! For this choice, we like that you can wear the boy shorts and they have added the details of the anchor buttons! It makes the whole suit feel inspired by the Navy, and it is a different way to rock patriotic colors for the Fourth of July.

An option for you ladies who prefer to wear a one piece is the Hazel bathing suit. Again we see the attention to detail that we have come to love from Fables by Barrie. The same anchor buttons are added the the drop waist, but there are also the red and white striped details added to the otherwise blue bathing suit. But the best part is the added skirting on the bottom. It makes the swimsuit so girly and festive! You would want to wear this while floating from the grill to the pool. No need to add a cover-up!

We got this great idea from Pinterest, via BettyCrocker.com! You know how crazy things can get if you are the one hosting the Fourth of July gathering, so a way to make things a little less chaotic is to do pre-set cocktails! You mix the cocktails you would like and then pour them into mason jars, screw on the lids and then stuff them in your bucket of ice. Guests can help themselves and you don’t have to constantly be behind the bar mixing! And even if you won’t be serving alcohol, you can use these for your juices, or other drinks! Just add a straw and go!

If you want to bring the red, white, and blue theme to your food you can re-create the American flag with fruit skewers. Here the person has used blueberries, strawberries, and bananas, but we would suggest swapping out the bananas for white nectarines, pears, or apples so they don’t brown as quickly. This is much more fun than the boring fruit salad mixture!

However you are choosing to celebrate the fourth, we hope that you are able to bring your love of vintage to your celebration! Feel free to tweet us and tell us how you are celebrating, or leave us a comment!
