Holiday Hair

21 Dec
With Christmas this weekend and New Years a mere week and a half away, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite ways to style your hair! Once you have the perfect outfit picked there is nothing worse than trying to figure out how to style your hair, we will make it easy for you!
One of our JBR fans swears by rollers! She washes her hair and then sets them in sponge rollers over night. Another fan uses a sock to roll her hair in a bun at night and in the morning when her hair comes out of the bun she is left with soft curls. We scouted through YouTube and found some of our favorite tutorials that we have used.
This video, brought to you by Cherry Dollface, is awesome! In it she walks us through how to make victory rolls. She makes it easy to follow and even breaks down when it would be best to use your hair for this style. She suggests using second day hair, as it will be easier for your hair to hold the style.
This next style is an updo. Again, this hairstyle is intended to be used for second day hair, especially if you have curled your hair the previous day. This styling will call for hair ties that match the color of your hair and a lot of bobbie pins. While she pulls the hair into a lot of smaller sections, I would suggests larger sections if you have more hair.
We liked having one simple style for an updo option as well as one with partially loose hair. Another great option for styling your hair is to do simple rag or pin curls. Both ways of styling will result in similar curls. You will start by sectioning your hair. We suggest starting with the base of your head and working up. You take a small portion of your hair and wrap it into a ringlet, then secure it to your head with bobbie pins. You will sleep in the bobbie pins and in the morning remove them. The result with be gorgeous curls to envy!

A Vintage Christmas Tree

14 Dec
We love the holidays around here! There is that extra magic in the air and you have an excuse to spend money, whether it be for family and friends or yourself! With all of the fun activities to take part in we wanted to share how you can bring your love of vintage to decorating your Christmas tree; in fact, as the month progresses we promise to bring you more posts on how your love of vintage can over lap with your decorating and shopping needs!
As we went to pick out the annual Christmas tree, yes, we still go and pick a live tree out, we had to make sure that the tree was full to place all of our favorite vintage ornaments on.
We found our vintage ornaments at an estate sale last year! Estate sales are a great place to find classic ornaments. Sometimes when ornaments are discarded due to a death in the family, or just being out of style; by the time they find their way to a Good Will or thrift store they are broken, chipped, and damaged. If you want to spend a little more you can search through Ebay for vintage ornaments that are in fair to excellent condition. The reason we like to dig through for classic ornaments is because these ornaments are unique, each one shares a story. Some of our favorites are large glass art-deco bulbs, a small glass crocodile, and a glass deck of cards. Each ornament represented the person who bought it, they have such a personality to them and they help make our tree unique!
Another great vintage idea is bring back the tinsel!
Yes, there was a time where tinsel was over done, but that time has passed. BRING BACK TINSEL! A little bit of tinsel can go a long way! We are not talking about your grandmother’s tinsel either, we are talking about using it sparingly to add some sizzle to your tree. Our personal favorite is gold and silver tinsel. We use it as an accent on our tree after we have strung the lights and added the ornaments. When you add the tinsel it gives the tree and extra sparkle to it. We are pretty sure that was the original intention for it, an accent not a staple.
And if all else fails…….get a fake tinsel tree!
There is nothing as kitschy as a colored tinsel Christmas tree! When we think of a retro Christmas we think of trees that have been flocked with snow or sprayed in bright colors. Now artificial trees come in a variety of colors and sizes. If you are not feeling bold enough to do a large colored tinsel tree get a small one. A small decorative tree like this on a table can be a center piece for any holiday party! We love have the non-traditional at times and this is a great chance for that!

Stocking Stuffers

11 Dec
It’s that time of year again, the holidays! A time to celebrate with our family and friends. A time to enjoy cocktail parties and all the hard work we have put in this year. And best of all, a time to shower our friends with little trinkets and gems!
We have been scouring the web and local stores to bring you some of our favorite stocking stuffers! If you didn’t have a clue as to what, here are some ideas for you this weekend!
There is nothing better than getting jewelry as a present and most of you know how much we love our accessories here! An idea for the jewelry lover in your life is a vintage locket necklace.
We found this locket on one of our favorite sites, Etsy. Etsy is a great place to find unique gifts for any event. This locket is brought to you by seller BasiltheCat, who has some awesome vintage jewelry pieces. We like giving lockets for presents because they remind us of a time were distance separated loved ones from one another. This is a way of carrying your loved ones with you! For any savvy shopper you can find lockets at many thrift stores and consignment stores.
Another great idea for a small gift are gloves! You can buy gloves in leather or satin and they can be worn during this chilly season!
Every woman should own a pair of elegant gloves. The winter is a time where our skin gets chapped from the airid temperature and winds, having a pair of chic gloves to protect our hands is a wonderful gift to receive! Our favorite gloves are leather driving gloves! They come in so many different colors and styles. You can use your gloves to help accessorize any outfit and they are a great way to add color! If you really want to channel another time you can purchase a pair with fur (or faux fur) around the wrist, this touch adds a whole other level of elegance!
The other stocking stuffer we love to share with our friends are card cases.
Whether or not your friend is a business woman, having a card case in your arsenal of accessories is a MUST! We love card cases because you can use them for business to keep your contact cards, or you can use them to hold your ID and credit cards for a night out on the town. Card cases can be used on a daily basis to just toss in your purse, instead of digging through your wallet for which cards you need this keeps all the most important ones in one central location! What’s even better is that they come in so many styles you can find one to fit any personality!
These are just a few of our FAVORITE stocking stuffer ideas! Leave us a comment and let us know some of your favorite stocking stuffers!
